Darren Cox of the Bath Building Consultancy team has just completed the careful repair and restoration of a Victorian Chapel on behalf of Wiltshire College.
The Chapel dating around 1850 falls within the grounds of Wiltshire College’s Salisbury Campus and has laid empty and derelict for a number of years.
Until recently the College has not had funds available even for essential repairs to the building however their links with Bournemouth University enabled them to obtain a substantial grant to repair and restore the building to provide a flexible learning space.
The works included: -
- External masonry repairs and stone cleaning including polticing to dressed stonework and hood moulds
- Addressing and eradicating substantial dry rot outbreaks and damp penetration
- Renewal of suspended timber floors
- Research and restoration of vandalised stained glass windows
- Re-roofing works
- Installation of new services including mains water, gas and electricity
- Provisions for disabled persons including accessible WC and access ramp
